Sports Voucher

At Nelson Central every Wednesday is ‘Walking Wednesday’. Our teachers record how many children walk, bike or scooter to school. This information is collected and entered onto the Feet first website (www.feetfirst.govt.nz). We are then able to monitor our progress over the year.
As a reward for entering our data on time for Term 2 we won a $500 sports voucher.
A big thank you to Feet First N.Z. and Sports Distributors and well done to all the fabulous children who are walking, biking or scootering to school!

100 Days Walking to School!

Last Thursday it was our 100th day of school this year! Some classes celebrated this special day in their classrooms.
Lucia from Room 11 made a beautiful poster with 100 photographs of herself walking to school every day! Lucia you are an absolute star!
In fact, Lucia is one of a number of children in the Kowhai Syndicate that walk to school every day. We are very lucky at Nelson Central School to have so many wonderful role models who are only 5 years of age.

Walking Wednesday Champions

Room17 from Te Pouahi were the 'Walking Wednesday Champions' for Term 1. They had a staggering 91% of their children walking, scootering or cycling to school on Wednesdays. This week at assembly they were presented with a Feetfirst trophy and certificate to acknowledge their efforts.
Well done Room 17! You have certainly set the bar for the rest of the school for Term 2.

Breakfast Show

Last Thursday morning T.V. One and the Breakfast Show came to Nelson on Tamati Coffey’s Tiki Tour of New Zealand.
As part of Feetfirst, a group of walking and cycling children from Nelson Central met with Tamati at the Information Centre at 8am. We were there with 3 other Nelson schools to demonstrate on live television our walking and cycling school buses. Tamati was very impressed with the way that children and families in Nelson are making such an effort to get out of their cars and walking or cycling to school.
Remember every Wednesday is ‘Walking Wednesday’. Try to come to school by foot!
